turtle hatchery

You can visit the turtle hatchery at Reef Seen on Pemuteran Beach which protects living sea turtles as well as their eggs. Locals are involved in the effort and they bring in eggs that they find so that they can be looked after by the conservation team and the hatchlings can be cared for until they are ready to enter the sea. Depending on the season, you can find eggs laid by Green Turtles, Olive Ridleys or Hawksbills. The project harnesses the power of the community and teaches the fishermen about the problems of exploiting natural resources through this endeavour. You can help them! For a small donation, you can visit the project and hear their story. You can even sponsor the care of a juvenile turtle and release it into the sea yourself (numbers permitting)!
